Washington Filmworks Announces

Washington Filmworks approves funding assistance for 2 commercials and 1 feature film. These projects mark a total of 55 projects approved through the Washington Filmworks program since inception in 2007.

Washington Filmworks 2010 Viral Video Competition "Through the Filmmaker's Lens"

Washington Filmworks 2010 Viral Video Competition "Through The Filmmaker's Lens" is well underway. This year's competition offers contestants a chance to win $3000 and a two-week run at local theaters. Videos can be in any genre or style --animation, narrative, documentary, music video, etc., but cannot exceed 2 minutes in length (inclusive of credits). Washington Filmworks Staying Connected

On October 12, Washington Filmworks met with John Patrick Lowrie, President of the SAG Council Regional Branch/Seattle. John has been part of the acting community since 1989. As President of the SAG Council Regional Branch/Seattle, John spends time organizing networking events in an effort to cultivate and promote the local talent. The overall mission of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation is to enhance the lives of actors by investing in programs which help them in their professional endeavors. Washington Filmworks hosts a series of casual conversations anointed "Coffee Talk" with leaders from the film and business communities to discuss trends, events and politics happening around the state. These discussions provide an opportunity to talk about potential areas of collaboration as well as Washington Filmworks' mission and goals.

Washington Filmworks Presents at the BOMA General Meeting

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Seattle King County held their October General Meeting at the Triple Door on Monday, October 25. Washington Filmworks' Executive Director Amy Lillard and Production Services Manager Lindsey Johnson together with the Seattle Office of Film + Music Director, James Keblas were guest speakers during the meeting. They discussed the film industry's role as an economic development vehicle for the state and explained how it offers immediate job creation and added revenue. The meeting offered much needed information to building owners about the process of filming on location with hopes that more owners will be excited about the perks of filming.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Seattle King County is a professional trade association whose several hundred members from 250 firms either own or manage commercial real estate or provide goods and services to the industry. Washington Filmworks heads to LA

Executive Director Amy Lillard and Program Manager Ruthann Taylor spent two days in Los Angeles taking meetings with independent producers from Mandate Pictures, Parlay Media, and Broken Road productions. These meetings provided an opportunity to promote the incentive program and highlight ways filmmakers can better capitalize on the digital media resources, vast location options, and crew depth available in Washington State. Washington Filmworks also partnered with the Washington Wine Commission and Warren Etheredge from The Warren Report in inviting LA based directors, producers, actors, and writers to a evening of libations, food and casual conversations at Santa Monica's Catch Restaurant located in the beautiful Case Del Mar Hotel.

Washington Filmworks Board Retreat!

The Board of Washington Filmworks recently wrapped their Annual Board Retreat on October 15. Topics of discussion ranged from a focused strategic plan for renewing the incentive program and finalizing the policy recommendation for the 2011 Legislative Session. Facilitator Steve Boyd of MacDonald Boyd and Associates, offered his 30 years of consulting services ensuring the meeting stayed focused and on track.
